Seeing as though this forum is at best dead, I would take the opportunity to moan about the new Youtube.
Ever since they updated the software on their site last week to enable flash videos to be displayed in a widescreen-esque format I noticed that when I'm trying to open up a link to another video the browser stops responding for 10 seconds before it does anything. I'm sorry but that is unacceptable especially as I detest overbloated software or good software that's gone bad(Norton). To have a site which freezes up my browser is a complete fuckup imo.
Anyone else has this annoyance with Youtube's slowdown??
It would be cool if someone completely made a bare minimum version of Youtube like Goosh.

there is a bare version of youtube bill, its called redtube! everything ive seen on there was pretty bare anyway. although thats possibly not the way you meant.
how dare you call this forum dead! yes ive logged in three days later and only just seen your post with no replies, but still! everything has it down times, people are busy christmas shopping, and watching paint dry, and gouging out their own eyes, its hard for an interweb forum to compete with entertainment values like that...
I havent seen any issues with new youtube myself, although now im at work they tend to look down on people using youtube, actively discourage us to be honest. so i dont really get to see it. did it turn out to be a shortterm bug or is it still affecting you dude?

Lol, redtube still works great and better yet you can preview each vid by hovering over it. Youtube is way behind in that respect. Anyhow I've just got an Acer netbook yesterday and Youtube is pretty nippy on that. The keyboard is nice to type on and the system boots up in under 20 seconds!! Problem I've got with it is that I can't install new programs on it because the repositories that Linpus Lite uses is the same one as Fedora 8 and it doesn't even work!! I really need to install Lyx and Abiword onto it!!

Its installed from either the HDD or SSD depending on which version of netbook you've got. I've got the HD version as they only had that in store plus SSD read/write speeds are still too slow compared to a HD. The reason why it boots so fast is because Linpus Lite is developed for the Acer netbook so the kernel is optomised to the max getting rid of unnessecary drivers etc. And with a light-ish Desktop environment(Xfce+Acer's launcher) it's not as bloated as Gnome or KDE.
Anyhow I finally figured out why the repositories are not working - Fedora doesn't seem to like D-link's G-series router so I sneaked onto next door neighbour's wireless and it worked a treat!!
Netbook does give eye strain at first and it's battery life isn't great(as its only a 3-cell one, you can buy a 6 cell battery which can give up to 6 hours) but it's great for doing work on the move.

The wireless card on my netbook is one of the best I've used. It can connect to my neighbour's unsecured wireless network effortlessly where the Vista would struggle(in fact Vista laptops I've used don't have good wireless capabilities and keeps cutting off at times for no good reason).
Dell has a netbook which has Ubuntu installed but my problem with Ubuntu is that its somewhat bloated - you're better off with something lighter especially for a netbook. I haven't had a good experience with Ubuntu at all due to it's bloat and it's reluctance to connect to the internet despite having everything working. Linpus is light yet has a decent repository list to do most of your stuff but I bought a netbook mainly for work(can't beat Lyx for quality) so lack of games won't bother me at all.
Oh and I think Youtube has fixed the slowdown bug on their website. Thank god for that - at least someone from there might be on Smurftrain?!

Oh I just got Compiz working and it really transforms the desktop!! Now I can plonk my windows into 4 desktops using the cube. It rocks and makes Vista owners like wtf?!
Just looked at the repository and was tempted to put Quake 3 onto it but seeing as though that will ruin my plan for using it for work I thought the better of it. Openoffice still not good enough imo so I'm gonna either try to get Office 2003 working through Wine or just stick with Abiword and Gnumeric which are both better anyway.
